Since its beginning, Ashakirana Education and Rehabilitation Society has been working towards recognizing the prevailing issues in the unprivileged sections of the society and eradicating them. An inevitable contribution to this cause comes from the persistent efforts of the volunteers. These self-motivated individuals understand the need to get involved with this cause. Ashakirana Education and Rehabilitation Society offers a diverse range of volunteering opportunities. Through these, you can not only contribute towards the betterment of underprivileged children/ women/ senior citizens but also undergo a transformational journey for yourselves.
Sustainability and ownership are imbibed in the program from the very beginning. They are critical to the success and long-term impact of the program on the ground. Strategic efforts will be made from the onset to ensure that local communities, beneficiaries, and staff actively participate and engage in the planned interventions. Their active engagement will not only ensure the sustainability of the program but also help in building their capacities to take up initiatives, negotiate with various stakeholders as well as monitor their progress in the times to come. In addition to this, networking, partnerships, and linkages with govt. authorities, concerned departments, programs, and policies will also ensure that beneficiaries will have continued access to social welfare services; schemes, subsidies, etc. post the withdrawal of program funding at the community level
Ashakirana Education and Rehabilitation Society has been celebrating the “Louis Braille Day” on 4th of January every year and it has brought a impact in the minds of disabled as well as the public about the Louis Braille who invented the Braille for the blind.
Ashakirana Education and Rehabilitation Society has been celebrating National festivals such as Independence day, Republic day, Gandhi Jayanthi etc. to make people to understand the value of the national events. Many people were participated in these programmes.
Ashakirana Education and Rehabilitation Society has established a hostel for differently abled employed women, trainees and students in Killaripet, Kolar in the year 2007. For admission into this hostel the annual income of the applicant should not exceed Rs. 60,000/-per annum. Disabled women who are working, students and trainees and age between 8-40 years are provided admission. We provide them the basic amenities of food, clothing, and shelter, along with necessary medical and psychological assistance. At present 50 differently abled beneficiaries are harvesting the benefits. We are collaborating with the Department for Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, Bangalore.
Ashakirana Education and Rehabilitation Society has been running a rehabilitation centers under Swadhar Greh scheme viz Ashakirana Rehabilitation Home for Women in Problems at 6th Ward, Municipal Layout, Gouribidanuru Road Chikkaballapur, Chikkaballapur District. The objective is to empower oppressed women by providing them with basic amenities and enhancing their skills through various vocational training. Right now 30 Women/ girls from vulnerable backgrounds such as victims of domestic violence, sexual crimes, widows, survivors of natural calamities, women who are deserted by family, widows, divorced, mentally challenged women (except for the psychotic categories who require care in a specialized environment in mental hospitals), etc. These women are between the age group of 18-55 years of age. We provide them the basic amenities of food, clothing, and shelter, along with necessary medical and psychological assistance. We work towards self-sustainable solutions and thus, empower these women through Skill Development training. We have established this home in the year 207 and have been working with Ministry of Women and Child Development, New Delhi and Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Karnataka.
We have initiated s residential special school for the mentally challenged in the year 2002. This special located at Nallimaradhalli, Siddalaghatta, Chikkaballapur District. More than 600 mentally challenged children were benefited from this intervention. Right now 45 mentally children doing their special education in this residential school. They are provided with shelter, food, education, recreational facilities etc. Almost all the children from the rural areas of Karnataka and Andrapradesh States. The children aged between 5 years to 24 years.
The mentally challenged children are educated through special educators and are taught to acquire basic life skills with the help of caretakers. The aim to teach them the basic skills of life like bathing, eating, etc and also mainstream into formal education. We are collaborating with the Department for Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, Bangalore. The Psychiatrist and Doctor are visiting periodically and counseling the focused group children.
Currently, there are an estimated 138 million elderly in India. 90% belong to the unorganized sector. Majority have to work in order to survive. Ashakirana Education and Rehabilitation Society has been serving to the senior citizens in its areas. It has been distributing blankets; bed sheets clothes etc and also conducting helath camp for the senior citizens periodically at free of cost and also distributing free medicines for them. It aims to serve elder needs in a holistic manner, enabling them to live active, dignified and healthier lives.
Ashakirana Education and Rehabilitation Society has been executing a Residential special school for the blind children at Siddlaghatta, Chikkaballapur District since 1997. It is pilot project in Kolar, before bifurcating the Kolar District and Chikkaballapur District. Around 800 blind children were helped to pursue their education since from its inception of the school. The blind children can study upto 10th Standard in this school and it is equipped with special educators to teach the target children. The children are benefiting Braille Education, Sports and Computer training. 16 trained staff are working in this school. The children are from various parts of Karnataka. They are provided with free food, accommodation, music etc. A doctor is visiting periodically and medical care is being provided to them. From 2008-09, our school is achieving 100% result in SSLC exams and participating in various cultural events, sports, quiz organized by District level and State level authorities and won many prizes. Our Blind children are also participating in Blind Cricket tournaments. We are collaborating with the Department for Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, Bangalore.
